Over here in Scottsdale corruption is a routine, professional practice. Making false statements on documents is very easy to determine. What are the reasons these deficiencies are not corrected? There are very easy to detect. The police are only the tip of the iceberg of corruption and incompetence that reaches into the inner depths of the Scottsdale Justice Court. Might that entity aptly be renamed: Scottsdale Kangaroo Court. Joseph Stalin would be proud.

Rumor: Dept. of Justice has ordered rainbow colors underwear (extra small) for the toughest corrupt sherriff in the country...According to a news flash this clown has caused taxpayers another 600,000 dollars today as a result of his tough stance against broken tailights...He will never go against real criminals. Another newsflash: his partner in crime Babozo (Pinal) wants to join him by maintaining that the hoax with deputy Pureliar did happen and the ak47 shooters have returned to Mars (not Mexico) in their invisible spaceship...Mr. Cartel expert (in the mind of Fox News) sooner than later will not be able to handle the truth so US Marshall Gonzalez better order extra-extra small underwear for this super Clown...Arizona---who let the clowns in? And you have no grasp on reality. Do I think the department is perfect, no, is there corruption to be found, probably, but it doesn't matter what people think whether reading the 63 pages, which I'm sure you didn't, or forming their opinion based on all the other anti Joe fanatics. IF THERE IS EVIDENCE OF WRONGDOING HE AND ANYONE ELSE SHOULD BE PROSECUTED. They either don't have sufficient eveidence or they are still gathering it to make their case. And maybe you should check out what your own city pays out to civil lawsuits every year, because they all do, its just not paraded in front of the citizens as this is.

All i know is if it was me with that type of organization doing what he does....I would be arrested under plenty of criminal syndicate statutes!! Cause hes a public figure hes excempt or what? Hes a criminal using the tax payers money to run his gang...Yes MCSO is a gang for you poeple that dont understand the topic. But hey...AZ has always had a colorful track record when it comes to corruption with government officials. Symington, Mecham, AZ Scam, the list goes on!! And now we come to find out that our governors sonis a sexual predator!! Good job AZ ;) Another homer for the election process. Makes you wonder if voting really matters right? I think its all fixed way before any of the so-called voting begins. Gotta make it look right though? Makes me sick and embarrased to say im even from here nowadays!!!

Wow....I didnt think to many poeple even paid attention to what your speaking of. Ive served 3 prison terms and i am very familiar with the departments cover-ups when it comes to crimes committed under their jurisdiction. The sickening thing about it is that the so called "Officers" employed thier are participating in these crimes and getting away with it!! Yes i indeed have seen criminal activities involving these scumbagsincluding homicide and smuggling of drugs into the prison yards. They are trained to cover up their tracks and when it gets"Hot" for them they are usually transferred off to another facility...Tax money at its best use right? Only if the public knew what their money promotes in that world ;)

They should also have Phoenix News Times Investigate Arizona Department of Corrections, The Current staff assults on Correctional Officers and the overwhlming Short staffing and the Current and past homicides on inmates due to shortstaffing, Thanks to brewer cutting the salaries of the Correctional Officers, Short staffing the Correctional Officer III, also non as counselors. Educational programs. In other words everything across the board was slashed for cuts. News Times you would get a very good story if you interview Correctional Officers and Inmates at Buckeye Lewis Complex among other Complexes in Arizona. Its a real problem that the Citizens of Arizona and Tax Payer dosen't know its getting worse. Cutting funds is not the answer. Cuver-up on murders in prison by State higher ups, Pay off of millions to families of inmates murdered or assulted by other inmates due to short staffing. TheEndIsNear 09/27/2010 12:31:00 AM
Much of the current controversy surrounding Arpaio and MCSO is an "apples and oranges" conundrum:
Point 1- Arpaio and his underlings have destroyed the MCSO from within (and ripped off the tax payers) by years of intimidation, corruption, and self serving publicity stunts. The victims of this mafia are not just the current and past employees, but other politicians, and private citizens who have had the audacity to cross the Regime.
Point 2- The illegal immigration issue is just another one of his stunts. He has twisted this matter to curry favor from a crime weary citizenry that is understandably upset with the federal government's failure to aggressively enforce the laws. His "tough on wetbacks" shtick is actually an insult to those who want real enforcement and reform.......and it has done nothing but pick fights with the feds.......which of course allows him to act even "tougher".
I am all for tough, non-politically correct enforcement of the immigration laws. I am NOT for a Sheriff that makes political hay out of a serious subject such as this just to get his name in the headlines......while simultaneously (and purposely) deflecting real attention from the years of criminal & financial misdeeds within his own organization. Arpaio is the furthest thing from a true professional law enforcement leader..........he is a charlatan; and a corrupt one at that.
-
Tommy Collins 09/26/2010 11:16:00 PM
I will guess you haven't read any of the 63 page memo by Munell. Nor have you read anything about the multiple criminal charges lost by MCSO when they retaliate against anyone who dares to disagree. Nor have you read about the many millions already paid, and many more millions to be paid, for civil lawsuits against MCSO simply because your hero, the Flaccid Fool, refuses to follow the Constitution of the United States and/or the very laws he was elected to protect.
It must be incredibly easy for someone of your ilk to write such nonsense. You simply have no basis for your statement.

XSoldier 09/26/2010 5:59:00 PM
Tommy,
You may find this piece of info as interesting as I did. I read in Wednesday's Mesa Republic that the Flaccid Fool DOESN'T have to be AZPOST certified.
I am thinking of writing and submitting a real tough new law that says that all county sheriffs, including the senile bag of flatulence, be AZPOST certified and must undergo a physical and psychological background examination. As a police officer, I'm sure you get where I'm coming from on this idea.
I also wanted to know if you had considered a run for MCSO shurf. That department could use a strong, disciplined officer such as yourself.
-
XSoldier 09/26/2010 5:52:00 PM
The MCSO shurf is:
A) A senile bag of flatulence
B) A short, overweight, corrupt flaccid old fool
C) A threat to public safety and a drain on the taxpayer
D) All of the above.
Mr. Lemons, you said it all! If anyone read today's Montini column in the Arizona Republic, he describes the Flaccid Fool as a Ford Model T. That is quite true.
Montini goes on to describe Pinal County Shurf Paul "Mr.Clean" Babeu as a Chevrolet Corvette. When Hell freezes over, the PCSO shurf will be a Corvette. He has corrupt deputies who fake their own shootings in his department.
Goddard is too much of an idiot to indict the senile old fool and his lackies. I will give him credit for the $94M he won from Western Union, though.
Now if Mr. Burke can grow and retain a pair and get this threat to public safety out of office, he'd be doing everyone a favor.
I also read in a Montini column that the Flaccid Fool actually can announce his candidacy for a sixth term as MCSO shurf. (thank you Senator Pearce)
I learned that Pearce is going to be AZ Senate President and may consider a run for the Guv's office, as well as MCSO shurf. We're all in major trouble if that happens.

If there is enough information to indict him then do it. Otherwise find someone else to smear in your liberal writings. Joe has done more for law enforcement than any of the puppet Chiefs in Phoenix, Mesa etc. Joe does not support breaking the law by harboring illegals in his jurisdiction. Can that be said for the big cities protecting them? There is no true journalism today, only politically motivated smear writers.

Please, Mr. Hurd, feel free to read the bible and pray. I will deal with reality and facts as they are known.
You need to know this about MCSO, Mr. Hurd. All the time you are praying and reading the bible they are thinking and plans ways to victimize you and many others.
(Exception statement) This does NOT include the many very fine and professional employees of MCSO who are looking forward to the day the Ivory Tower comes down.
-
Thephnxman 09/26/2010 1:29:00 AM
Mr. Lemons: If I understand anything about the law, it is only this: there is a big difference in accusing and indicting an individual with a crime, and and accusing and indicting a LAWFUL police enforcement agency. The ground rules HAVE to be different.
My question is: do YOU, Mr. Lemons, have access to the files and actual testimonies of the accusers? Or are YOU privy to information that a Grand Jury would have, of are you being fed information (perhaps illegally) by someone in the DOJ? Is that why YOU (according to the headlines) expect to see a federal indictment: which might make YOU a viable Grand Jury witness to possessing information...unless that is just your bias against the MCSO, or any law enforcement agency that is at odds with yout political viewpoint!
-
TheEndIsNear 09/25/2010 10:22:00 PM
Munnell has been part of the corrupt, self-serving, insider club for many years.........that's how he got to where he is today. His memo to Arpaio is a transparent attempt to cover his ass, prop us his buddy Sheridan, and protect Arpaio (who is now basically senile, but had been supportive of and fully witting of the nefarious illegal actions of Hendershott, et al for years). All of the "Chiefs", "Super Chiefs", PIO staff and other upper echelon have turned a blind eye/ear to the mismanagement of the MCSO for decades, while ignoring the due process of scores of harassed and terminated employees. Units such as the "Threats Squad", MACE, and the like have been used to "investigate" and attack anyone perceived as a disloyal enemy of the regime. It will take an army of experienced, impartial investigators to unravel all of the crimes.........including a team of forensic financial experts and computer crime sleuths. The feds better act fast........as I'm sure the shredders on the 19th floor are working on high speed as we speak. The removal of Hendershott, Black, and Fox are just the tip of the iceberg..........and the remainder of the command staff know it. I'd bet they are getting their own "black books" of incriminating notes ready to point fingers at one another in an attempt to save themselves from the sinking ship and inevitible indictments. They lost the respect of the current (and past) rank and file long ago......in addition to turning the MCSO into a laughing stock amongst the rest of Arizona law enforcement agencies. All in order to bestow lofty titles upon themselves and to enrich themselves at the expense of the true professionals that still suffer at the MCSO. The beginning of the end is finally here..........thank God.

Truly we must acknowledge that Joe should have know what was happening in his department yet he done what it done tn the business world. By placing his confidence in one that he trusted. And to be found not loyal to the best sheriff in the United States of America.Look at the big picture and give Joe the respect that he should have. Pray for Joe as the bible states.See Romans 13: 1-7, in fact the people that are in political position because GOD put them there. You should read the Bible and not depend on the preacher. Study to show yourself approval to God and not man, then you will meet the approval of GOD. THINK ABOUT PLEASING GOD.

you move your cursor near them. Something's not right the way that was set up. Those should not be covering the headline. Copied and pasted them here for you. These cover up the top headline still trying to find what it says and can't.

This really has little to do with illegal immigration. Joe started racial profiling during his "crime suppression sweeps" prior to the passage of SB1070. The Sheriff of Maricopa County quit serving the citizens and began to rule, ignoring his responsibilities to live within MCSO's budget which will cost the taxpayers millions along with the pettty fueds with the BOS. This is a classic lesson in how power corrupts. The more his popularity grew, the more corrupt he became until he felt above the law and that is when he quit serving and began to rule. His effectiveness as Sheriff has been more than tarnished. A serving Sheriff would step down to save the citizens of Maricopa County any more hardship. Unfortunatey the citizens will suffer.
-
Roadken53 09/24/2010 5:47:00 PM
No Public Servant should be above the law, they work for the people. They have guide lines in which they must abide by, if they step out of those guide lines, it is for certain a reason for termination, no matter what level of government they represent.
-
09/24/2010 3:54:00 PM
Let's cut to the chase: this Arpaio flap is all about illegal immigrants. Sheriff Joe wants U.S. laws enforced; the Maricopa Supervisors, City of Phoenix etc, encourage and through subcontractors, virtually employee illegals. And who knows, if the Supervisors and other officials are stick men for the Mexican Cartels who make in the neighborhood of 40 billion via the Phoenix pipeline for human and drug trafficking.Political campaigns are every expensive, and indirect contributions by Mexican Cartels are viewed as overhead and normal cost of doing business. The U.S. "legal" system is a sham, we incarcerate those with differing political opinions all the time. Who is,or is not indicted depends on which party is in power at the time. The Dems are in power for now, who knows who will be indicted after the 2012 elections ?
-
The Ace 09/24/2010 6:38:00 AM
Sheriff Joe is an ignorant MORON. His claim to fame is the fact that he attended Glendale
Community college, he does not state for HOW LONG OR WHAT HIS MAJOR WAS, probably a one week course in thievery?
He reminds me of (and looks like) Al Capone the chicago MOBSTER. What troubles me is that he has been allowed by our political system too present himself as a HERO. His right
hand man, HENDERSHOT is a big fat PIG that is double dipping with a huge pension and SALARY by acting as ARPAIO'S hired gun. I would let them both lose in in the prison system wearing only PINK UNDERWEAR and let the prisoners have their way with them both. It would be a fitting end for them both, living like KINGS with our money!

If Joe was responsible by commission or omission then he should go and take whatever penalty is due. The case against Mary Rose Wilcox was thrown out because the judge thought it was brought on political grounds. The ruling was not based on the facts. Her misdeeds are well known whether they are settled in court or not. Some of hers have passed the statute of limitations. But Joe, should not take her defense, and deal with the issues straight on. Iglesias has his own issues and cannot be taken seriously. He would not go after ACORN for voter fraud and was then fired. He has issues.

Omar, you misspoke. The MCSO shurf, aka the Flaccid Fool, is NOT a cop. He is only an elected official in Maricopa County. He doesn't hold AZ P.O.S.T certification as a peace officer and never has. He can't be a 'top cop' if he isn't one, you dolt.
Rather, he is one of fifteen county sheriffs in Arizona. One of many hundreds, if not thousands, in the United States. He's a relatively insignificant person, actually. Just another old goat in Arizona.
-
Doug 09/23/2010 10:50:00 PM
I am in doubt that anything will be done to Sheriff Joe as far as any indictments are concerned. I am old enough to remember how Sheriff's used to rule in the South and this is just a western version. Instead of afro-americans, Sheriff Joe has Mexicans, and others from latin countries he blames. The playbook he is using was invented over 100 years ago in the deep south. He continues to profit from the taxpayers in Maricopa County and no one has the "stones" to call him to task, not the AG nor the US Government. I can only pray that the voters will not re-elect him in 2012.

I'm sorry, let my correct my own inaccuracy before someone jumps on it--most of hte people in the jail have been at least charged, but not yet convicted (although some are awaiting even the initial filing of charge against them), but my essential comparison is still apt. People only suggest we not rush to judgment when we happen to be judging someone they care about--otherwise, they are all for condemning people with little to no information.

Lolaspks 09/23/2010 8:18:00 PM
Neither have the people in his jails, but you Sheriff-Joe-sheep all seem to forget that when it is convenient and you want to scream about how he is "tough on criminals." And he hasn't been charged because he obstructs investigations, intimidates and coerces witnesses, and people with the ability to indict him or rein him in have failed to discharge their jobs, probably in large part out of fear from retaliation from Sheriff Joe and the apologists who vote for him. Simply being able to garner a large portion of votes does not make Arpaio innocent of wrongdoing or make his policies legal or morally right. Even if 99.9% of Americans decide they would really like to adopt Nazi policies or begin slavery again would not mean that a politician should do it. Just because its popular does not make it moral or ethical. Hell, at one point, the TV program that the most Americans liked was WWF wrestling. Luckily, the founding fathers of this country actually built a few things into our system to protect against the tyranny of the majority.

Lolaspks 09/23/2010 8:09:00 PM
Are you kidding me? You either work for the Sheriff, are so obsessed with illegal immigration that you will excuse and applaud any corruption by this sheriff, or you have had a complete frontal lobotomy (perhaps all of the above?). Let me pick one of your asinine assertions: how can you possibly claim he "discharges his sworn duties effectively"? He so utterly and completely failed in his STATUTORY duty to have enough staff working to bring inmates to court that a court was forced to take the extraordinary step of holding him in contempt while at the same time he was assigning deputies to frivolous investigations of his political enemies, like in the bug sweep investigation and taking a heavily armed group of deputies and posse members to raid Mesa government buildings in the dead of night to arrest a maid or two. Also, arresting illegal immigrants is actually NOT one of his sworn duties, interestingly enough, not that you care about reality or the law.

Arpaio is a theif in the worst way. Since when does a elected official not have to answer for his over budget spending. Not to mention the amount of money this man costs az taxpayers. But az is such ass backwards, one foot in the grave, goat ropin, chicken f*&^*, that they deserve all the shit they get. I've yet to find a decent intellectual conversation in the past 20 years. Yep I'm movin as far away from this god forsaken piece of shit state, and if anyone asks where I'm from, I'm gonna lie, because this state is an embarrassment.

Ms Info 09/23/2010 6:57:00 PM
If this week's USA Today articles on federal prosecutors, including those in Arizona's U.S. Attorney's Office, tells us anything, it's that the feds aren't any more familiar with the concept of true justice than Arpaio and Thomas.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, we can't rely on wimpy Burke or bearded wimpy Goddard or any other politician. We have to take Arpaio out ourselves at the polls.

Sheriff Joe may be a political grandstander and is probably not someone that any of us would like to be friends with. However, in my view he treats criminals in an appropriate manner. He is a quality sheriff who discharges his sworn duties effectively. Those who are against the practices of his department may support an agenda that does not include, among other things, identifying and deporting illegals aliens. If that describes you, tough luck. You are in the minority as evidenced by Joe's repeated success at the polls.

Maricopa County's top cop got 55-57% of the vote in his past two elections. A 2007 recall petition drive against the "Toughest Sheriff in America" failed for lack of enough signatures. The local liberal media should pack up and relocate to, say, San Francisco where they would be much happier. Alternatively, they could start attacking the voters who have given the sheriff five terms in office.

Well seeing that the Phoenix PD, Mesa PD & Glendale PD all have more arrests of illegals, then I would say the next sheriff would be a giant step in the right direction or stopping illegal immigration & crime.

What is to become of Arizona if Arpaio was removed from his position?? Who would benifit from it??Would the next Sherriff stand up and fight the illegals??or the drug cartels?? without that I think Arizona would be DOOMED!! I would leave!!not sure where though. It seems that alot of our politician's are corrupt!!!!!!!!!!!!!at low leveles to HIGH!! and if we the people dont stand trogether then we are in trouble!!!!! It's not a white,Black or??? thing its US against these politicians that are selling us out everyday!! oneday we will wake up and it will be all gone!!!! I say we vote out these guys that have been in office for a long time and take that power away!!!! Like Harry Reid,McCain, etc, they had there chance and they failed!!!!!!

I believe Joe Arpaio has pushed everyones buttons in the wrong way. Who does he think he is? Who made him a judge about people race anyway? What did he do with all the misused money? I thought that being Sheriff he is supposed to work for the people not the other way around. I think the hat has been placed on the wrong head. He has let all of this authority created by himself has really gotten to him. God created every man & woman no matter what creed, race or color equal, who gave him the authority to try to change God's laws? He is supposed to be paid for protecting the people, not picking & choosing who he wants protected by their color, race or creed. Just remember Joe what goes around DOES come around.

Disappointed Democrat 09/23/2010 6:03:00 AM
Terry Goddard could have expedited the process and done something two years ago. Felicia Rotellini is cut from the same cloth. Horne has shown himself to be independent and no one's puppet.Horne has been willing to take on the Feds and he defeated Andrew Thomas. A year ago his own party counted him out. Rotellini has credibility issues. How does the person in charge of state banking during the time when the worst corruption existed and she did NOTHING about it get us to believe she will now be tough on crime. The AG has to protect our borders by enforcing ALL the laws. Tom Horne beat Thomas and has not been given the respect and credit for shuting down part of the Arpaio macjine. he has my vote and respect at this point.

Stephen, Outstanding investigative reporting!! A great public service. You are very courageous You have fought hard for those who have no voice and we thank you. After all these years it's time for indictments. The people have lived and died under this reign of terror for far too long. This is NOT the America we ever knew.

Mr. Lemons, what is becoming painfully obvious to the citizens is the simple fact that our federal agents are just as inept and lazy as those we wish the feds would come down on. While it is now blatantly obvious the level of corruption here in Arizona, what is now becoming most disheartening is the simple realization that we really don't have federal protection here in Arizona other than what is meted out by the federal courts. Law enforcement and intervention by the feds in Arizona for corruption of state officials is simply non-existence, and we'd all do well to face up to that fact. Don't get me wrong, the feds do maintain somewhat of a presence - if you're an indigent Indian and you commit a crime on indian land, oh, the feds are right there; but, faced with the magnitude of corruption now coming to light, the feds are just inept. Sad state of affairs.
So, what about the soon to be decided next state Attorney General? If Horne wins the election, will he also prove just as inept as the feds have? Or, will he remember how Arpaio vehemently backed that worthless piece of shit candy-ass Thomas? Maybe, that will be where we finally get some of this corruption addressed. Personally, I hope Felicia wins, but, my hope for Arizona saving itself dims further as each day passes and each new revelation of corruption goes unpunished . . .I do however, admire your efforts and the staff of New Times for your tireless efforts to continue to expose the corruption. Thank you foryour efforts in what appears to be a thankless endeavour.
