Adam Smith @ Phoenix Theater

These days, it can seem like America's youth is too jaded to care about their fellow man, but Adam Smith is doing his level best to change that. Last year, more than 26,000 Arizona teens attempted suicide, and the young singer/songwriter is using what he can — his musical ability — to raise awareness of that fact and help aid in its prevention. He has teamed up with Arizona's peer-to-peer crisis hotline Teen Lifeline, and will be releasing a new single on the heels of his debut album, Another Way to Get to Heaven, whose proceeds will benefit the organization. Just over a year ago, Smith himself was homeless on the streets of Nashville playing for tips and now lives part time in Mesa. The self-taught pianist and guitar player plays music with a James Taylor feel to it, and will be bringing and his sound as well as his message to the Phoenix Theater this week, with fellow young musicians The Melillo Brothers.
