Jovial bike festival rules the roads
Major League Baseball might have the “Fall Classic” phrase trademarked for its season-capping, champ-crowning World Series, but we really think the Tour de Fat deserves a shot at it.
The annual celebration of all things bicycle, put on by New Belgium Brewing Company, cruises into Tempe Beach Park. The Fort Collins, Colorado brewers of the crispy and tasty Fat Tire beer emphasize that it’s a big bike party that happens to have frosty suds on tap, not a raging kegger on wheels. Makes sense since it was founder Jeff Lebesch’s cycling trip through Belgium that inspired what would become their flagship brew. The shindig includes a costumed bike parade through downtown Tempe, performances by the clangingly awesome March Fourth Marching Band from Portland, and an area just for kids.
