L.A. group brings Brazil to life

As evidenced by Native American hoop dancing, the hulas of Hawaii, and ballet, humans have pushed dance beyond merely shaking a tail feather and created storytelling forms. Now in its 13th year, Viver Brasil uses the traditional and contemporary dances of Salvador – the third largest city in Brazil and Badaró’s hometown – to joyously unravel the many threads of Brazilian history and culture, including the strong influences of West African slaves who were brought to South American soil.
