Footwork

L.A. group brings Brazil to life

As evidenced by Native American hoop dancing, the hulas of Hawaii, and ballet, humans have pushed dance beyond merely shaking a tail feather and created storytelling forms. Luiz Badaró and Linda Yudin co-founded Viver Brasil to tell the tales of Brazil, and their latest work, Feet on the Ground, does just that on at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.

Now in its 13th year, Viver Brasil uses the traditional and contemporary dances of Salvador – the third largest city in Brazil and Badaró’s hometown – to joyously unravel the many threads of Brazilian history and culture, including the strong influences of West African slaves who were brought to South American soil.
