In his latest series of provocative works, the local painter will be exhibiting a thirty-foot installation in the cathedral room of the Icehouse that comments on Michaelangelo’s Last Judgment fresco in the Sistine Chapel. According to Gutierrez, the piece is “a play on my long-running series about what it would have been if a Native discovered Europe rather than the other way around.”

Other works in this show include The Birth of America, a painting Gutierrez debuted at “Chaos Theory 11” that features an Aztec giving birth to Captain America, as well as pieces “regarding the recent hubbub regarding SB1070 and all the talk of profiling brown folks.”
