Old School Jam

One of the best things about the annual state fair -- other than its menu of overly fried food -- is the event's free concert series at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Sure, you can drop upwards of $25 to get up close to superstars like Snoop Dogg and Bret Michaels, but why not spend you hard-earned cash on rickety midway rides and grab a seat a few rows back for absolutely nothing. This weekend's Old School Jam offers a trip back in to the days of poppin' and lockin' and parachute pants with performances by Newcleus ("Jam On It," "I Wanna Be A B-Boy"), Exposé ("Point of No Return," "Let Me Be The One"), and Midnight Star ("No Parking on the Dance Floor"), as well as mid-90s hitmaker Montel Jordan ("This is How We Do It"). Half-price admission to the fair will also be available from noon until 6 p.m. during its "happy hour" promotion.
Fri., Nov. 5, 8 p.m., 2010
