Songs in the Key of Life

Musical culture for a cause

Part world music concert, part documentary, Laya Project is a musical film journey that pays tribute to the survivors of the December 2004 Asian tsunami that killed thousands. Hundreds of hours of recorded film footage and music, logged during a two-year journey through six countries (India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Maldives, and Myanmar), the movie captures the sonic culture of the communities affected by the devastation.

Directed by filmmaker Harold Monfils, the motion picture offers a musical tribute to the resilience of the human spirit. It’s been shown on the National Geographic Channel, then moved to the film festival circuit, where it took various awards (the Founder's Choice Award at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival, and the Best Film Award at the Byron Bay Film Festival, among them).
