Get Your Phil

Los Angeles is coming to town

Perhaps you don’t care for classical music. A large ensemble of musicians who variously play cellos, basses, oboes, and French horns fails to move you; you don’t know what timpani are; can’t tell a symphony from a concerto or a violin from a viola. It may not matter to you, then, that the Los Angeles Philharmonic is coming to town, via one of those live-broadcast-in-theaters set-ups that are becoming increasingly popular in cultural wastelands like our own. But how about this: The LA Phil Live: Dudamel Conducts Beethoven concert, simulcast at movie houses all over the Valley on Sunday, January 9, will be hosted by Desperate Housewives star Vanessa Williams.

Oh, sure. Now you’re interested. Good. Because when Williams isn’t being all faux-bitchy between movements (that’s symphony talk), the LA Phil will be playing. And that’s something worth hearing, no matter your interests.
