Learn about pre-Kristen Stewart cinema

Ask a teenager who the most important actresses are and she’ll probably start with Kristen Stewart (because teenagers are idiots); ask a thirty-something and she’ll most likely include Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock. But as moving as Miss Congeniality 2 was, it’s high time to remind people of (or teach them about, for the first time) the actresses who put the “classic” in “classic American film.”

Film teacher and cinema connoisseur Fred Linch hosts an interactive exploration of the most prominent actresses of the 1930s and 1940s including Lauren Bacall, Katharine Hepburn, Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis, and other major starlets of the era. Using clips and discussion, Linch discusses the significance of these icons in cinematic history.
