Cinema City

If you thought the rivalry between Mac and PC users was brutal, just imagine the potential for fights between punk kids in slasher film tee shirts and elitist, beret-wearing cinephiles at the 11th Annual Phoenix Film Festival.

,p> This year the weeklong event spotlighting modern, independent cinema merged with the International Horror & Sci-Fi Film Festival, resulting in a mash-up of over 100 films that range from zombie musicals and alien flicks to the opening night’s world premiere of Starting at the Finish Line: The Coach Buehler Story, a tearjerker about the famed Duke University track coach’s battle with an inoperable tumor.

"It's about giving the audiences of Arizona a chance to see that filmmaking isn't just explosions and big name stars,” says festival founder Chris LaMont. "It can also be a creative expression from fresh viewpoints that speak to audiences in a myriad of ways. Also, we have really great parties."
