If you thought the rivalry between Mac and PC users was brutal, just imagine the potential for fights between punk kids in slasher film tee shirts and elitist, beret-wearing cinephiles at the 11th Annual Phoenix Film Festival.

,p> This year the weeklong event spotlighting modern, independent cinema merged with the International Horror & Sci-Fi Film Festival, resulting in a mash-up of over 100 films that range from zombie musicals and alien flicks to the opening night’s world premiere of Starting at the Finish Line: The Coach Buehler Story, a tearjerker about the famed Duke University track coach’s battle with an inoperable tumor.

"It's about giving the audiences of Arizona a chance to see that filmmaking isn't just explosions and big name stars,” says festival founder Chris LaMont. "It can also be a creative expression from fresh viewpoints that speak to audiences in a myriad of ways. Also, we have really great parties."
