The official web site of the Lenin Mausoleum is pretty trippy. The spruces have grown up. There is no red banner under the Kremlin. But the Mausoleum still exists, it proclaims.
If you hurry, you can vote online to ensure the tombs continued existence. Or, you can do your part to preserve the deceased dictators memory by catching the Theatre Artists Studio production of Vern Thiessens Lenins Embalmers.
Theissens play is based on the weird quest of two Jewish scientists and Stalin insiders (Boris Zbarsky and Vladimir Vorobiev) to preserve Lenins body forever. Arrests, betrayals, biochemistry, The Gulag; its all in this dark comedy. The fruits of the real-life Zbarsky and Vorobievs labors are visible at Lenins mausoleum, as embalmers still pour fluid over the fallen leader every few days.
