It’s been something of a “best of times, worst of times” kinda year for gay rights. While the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy was (thankfully) repealed by Congress, small-minded knuckle-draggers and asshat conservatives worked overtime to deny gays, lesbians, and transgendered folks the basic human right of legal marriage.

Still, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate, which the LGBT crowd will do in massive fashion during Phoenix Pride this weekend. Two straight days of fun and festivities take place at Steele Indian School Park, 300 East Indian School Road, starting on Saturday, April 16, with highlights including a colorful cornucopia of vendors, art exhibitions, and other distractions.

The schedule of live entertainment is equally vibrant, with gigs from indie superstars Shiny Toy Guns and Uh Huh Her, as well as a performance by ‘80s pop starlet Tiffany and dozens of drag artists. As always, the event kicks off with the annual Pride Parade on Saturday, which will be led by grand marshal Lynda Carter. The parade departs from Third Street and Thomas Road at 11 a.m.

Sat., April 16, 12-9 p.m.; Sun., April 17, 12-9 p.m., 2011
