Riding a bicycle with no hands on is a remarkable feat, to be sure. The stunt never fails to impress onlookers, can earn one some serious street cred, and allows riders to flip double birds at reckless motorists who get in their way.
And at this weekends SanTan Wheelie Jam, it will permit cyclists to indulge in some double-fisted drinking while riding their steel steeds.
Both bikes and brews will be in abundance at Steele Indian School Park, 300 East Indian School Road, on Saturday, April 23, when the Tempe Bicycle Action Group and SanTan Brewing present an afternoon-long festival filled with craft brews and crafty riders.
The Tour De Fat-style event will have a decidedly homegrown bent, offering a host of vendor booths from locally owned, bike-friendly businesses -- ranging from Boulders on Broadway restaurant to Slippery Pig bike shop. Activities include a three-mile jaunt around the park, as well as a variety of games, trick demonstrations, and cycling-oriented workshops. Local bands from the Black Cactus collective will also perform.
