It's tempting to say that the lineup for local hard rock station KUPD's U-Fest looks culled from a Where Are They Now? marathon on VH-1. But that would imply that someone actually gives a shit where bands like Papa Roach, Drowning Pool, and Powerman 5000 are now. Those holdovers from the nu-metal explosion of the late '90s are joined by a head-scratching collection of similarly uninspiring acts that span the spectrum of banal, jock-friendly aggro-metal. Hollywood Undead are the relative newcomers on the bill and should satisfy any aging frat boys disappointed with Papa Roach's recent move away from rap-rock pablum. All That Remains play a brand of metalcore so devoid of heaviness that even Bullet for My Valentine fans might consider it wimpy. Legendary German metal band Accept might be the most intriguing act on the bill, even with famously diminutive vocalist Udo Dirkschneider no longer fronting the band. At least they'll play "Balls to the Wall." Rounding out the bill are Nonpoint, Pop Evil, Hail the Villain, and New Medicine, as well as a trio of local bands we won't embarrass by printing their names here.
