Bat Men

Like most Valley baseball fans, we’re accustomed to writing off the Arizona Diamondbacks around this time of year. It’s an easy habit to maintain, considering the fact that the team is often out of contention by Cinco de Mayo.

This season, however, the Snakes have done just enough to be major players in the surprisingly weak National League West. The question now is if the sub-.500 Arizona team has what it takes to stay in the playoff hunt.

The Diamondbacks’ status as contenders will be tested this week at Chase Field, 401 East Jefferson Street, when they take on the visiting Atlanta Braves. Led by ageless third baseman Chipper Jones, Atlanta appears to be better than any of our home team’s NLW competitors, which should make for some enthralling competition.

The D-Backs will start up a two-game series against the Braves on Wednesday, May 18.
