Geek Mythology

Geeks everywhere dig on discussing the concept of alternate realities, particularly when it creates interesting scenarios. Like what if the Nazis won World War II, or if Spiderman had joined up with the X-Men?

Here’s a scary proposition: What if Stan Lee had never been born? It’s an alternate reality we wouldn’t want to exist in, given that comic books (and probably pop culture in general) would suck. We’re certain that any of the thousands who will gather for a Q&A session by the co-creator of X-Men and The Fantastic Four at this year’s Phoenix Comicon would heartily agree.

Lee is one of more than 100 special guests who will be in attendance at the annual four-day extravaganza devoted to science fiction, comic books, horror flicks, steampunk, anime, and similar subject matter. Legendary Star Trek actors Leonard Nimoy and George Takei are scheduled to appear, as is Firefly lothario Adam Baldwin, True Blood vamp Kristin Bauer, geek guru and author Wil Wheaton, and even intergalactic space pimp Billy Dee Williams (a.k.a. Lando Calrissian).
