Hoop Dreamers

A sad reality for Phoenix Suns fans is that Steve Nash may never play another game for the team. And without a true successor to “Hair Canada,” Planet Orange’s chances of making the playoffs anytime soon are probably slim to none.

Fortunately there’s still plenty of competitive basketball happening in Phoenix, including the fast-paced action practiced by the participants of the annual Native American Basketball Invitational tournament. Taking place over the course of four days, the annual basketball battle features more than 50 Native American men’s and women’s squads from across Arizona and around the nation taking it to the hoop on courts throughout the Valley. Expect the same aggressive, up-tempo style that the Suns used to play, only being practiced by burgeoning b-ballers.

The opening rounds commence at on Wednesday, July 6, at Phoenix College’s North Gym and variety of local venues, with the championship finals taking place on Saturday, July 9, at US Airways Center.

Visit NABI’s website for a full schedule and list of game locations.
