The year 1986 was memorable for numerous reasons: There was the Challenger space shuttle explosion, the Iran Contra scandal, Hands Across America, and the return of Halley's Comet, among other things. It was also the year that we saw debut albums from some of hair metal's biggest acts — which is why this year, you're likely to see several tours come though town billed as 25th anniversary tours. Philadelphia's Cinderella is on one such tour, celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album, Night Songs (released in August of '86). The album was your typical hair-metal album: a hard-rocking single, followed by the all-important power ballad, and then another fast and heavy song. Thanks in large part to heavy rotation for "Nobody's Fool," Night Songs was a success. The band managed to score another big hit with yet another power ballad "Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone)" (from 1988's Long Cold Winter). The group would go on to release two more albums, but the '90s weren't kind to hair-metal bands, as they got shuffled off the charts by grunge acts and left awaiting the inevitable wave of nostalgia for '80s metal. Now that the wave has broken, Cinderella might as well ride it out.
