Twenty-two years ago, the city wised up and started luring locals out of their homes with free drinks and nibbles, tunes, and artists’ receptions to break the monotony of daily heat warnings. The result was the annual Summer Spectacular ArtWalk, a self-guided tour through Old Town’s arts district.

Highlights of this year’s event (besides complimentary ice-cold tea) include Tera Crisalida's hot Brazilian jazz, pop vocals from Angela Leavitt, getaway-themed paintings at Wilde Meyer’s Colores Gallery, and a book signing by Scottsdale-based illustrator Sylvia Long at Duley-Jones, 7100 East Main Street.
