For a crate-digging DJ, nothing is as exciting as a great find. Months of scouring through dusty stacks often yield no results. DJ Organic, known to friends and family as Dominic Khin Htay, obtains most of his records the hard way — scouring estate sales and thrift stores. Occasionally, the persistence pays off. "Oh, my god," he says, laughing when asked about his best finds. "Jesus, man. You know, there's so much stuff. I found a really cool Black Velvet record, Can You Feel It?, at a thrift store in Tucson. It was 50 cents, and all I had was my debit card. The lady there let me walk out with it." Tuesday night at The Hot Plate, at The Lost Leaf, 914 North Fifth Street, Organic won't be playing soul, focusing on '90s dancehall reggae to complement the dub and roots selections of DJ Smite and Tony Culture. But his tastes include surf rock and death metal, which may get spins at future events. The music starts at 9:30 p.m., and there's no cover.
