If time travel ever becomes a reality (and then, inevitably, an industry), wouldn't it be fun to go back to see our favorite classic bands at various points? The Beatles on their first U.S. tour in 1964, Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock in 1969, Guns N' Roses on their pre-breakout 1987-88 tour with Aerosmith — the possibilities would be endless.

Unfortunately, no one's demonstrated a real time machine yet, so we have to settle for our imaginations, — and this fictionalized diary entry from a huge Foreigner and Journey fan, who saw her favorite rock bands perform together back in 1983, when they were both huge arena-fillers with fists full of radio hits.
July 25, 1983
Dear Diary,
The Foreigner and Journey concert last night was totally tubular! I don't regret selling my Swatch and wrist bangles to buy a ticket AT ALL. It cost me $12, but it was so majorly worth it because the show sold out. And it makes me feel better about not being able to see The Police on their Synchronicity tour ($18 for a ticket? As if!) Sting is cute, but so is Steve Perry. And Foreigner rocks.
I spent all day bleaching and ripping my jeans to match my denim jacket, which I tore the shoulder pads from because they made me look like a football player. I got to the arena early and watched some guys play hacky-sack in the parking lot while "Beat It" blasted from their boom box. When I got to my seat, there was so much Aqua Net in the air from girls' stick-up bangs that I thought I was going to die. That's why I feather my hair, so it doesn't get all grody.
Foreigner came on first. The arena was totally packed and everybody screamed, stoked to hear the opening guitar chords of "Feels Like the First Time." The bass seemed to boom inside my chest when they played "Head Games," and I danced during "Dirty White Boy" — until some tramp with giant green triangle earrings and big boobs took off her sweaty shirt and starting waving it around in my face. Gag me with a spoon. But I kept on rockin', just like Foreigner sings in "Juke Box Hero," and enjoyed the rest of their show, especially "Urgent," "Cold As Ice," and "Hot Blooded." When they played "Waiting for a Girl Like You," everybody raised their lighters high, and I almost cried.
But Journey was the real cool beans. I got their new album, Frontiers, the day it came out in February. It's so rad, and they played all the best songs off it: "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)," Faithfully," and "Send Her My Love." Steve Perry's voice was so smooth and strong! Of course, we all went crazy when Journey played their other hits, too, like "Wheel in the Sky," "Open Arms," and "Don't Stop Believin'." I hope I can see Journey again, but I heard a rumor that Steve Perry's leaving the band after this tour. Maybe they can find somebody cool enough to replace him some day.
Saw Guns and Roses open for Deep Purple and Aerosmith at Giants Stadium in August 1988. They filmed part of Paradise City video there. Sweet Child o Mine had just hit #1 that week. Despite the GA seats on the field and getting bounced around like a pin ball, the show was awesome
