If there’s indeed a fiery afterlife awaiting us once we shuffle off this mortal coil, our one hope is that it’s as entertaining as the Hellzapoppin Sideshow. After all, if we’re gonna spend eternity in the company of flame-wielding freaks, they might as well be amusing. And, believe us, the sideshow performers who make up this touring circus troupe are just that.
Led by verbose master of ceremonies Bryce “The Govna” Graves, Hellzapoppin will be the surreal centerpiece of this weekend’s Bizarre of the Bazaar at The Firehouse, 1015 North First Street. Its raucous roster includes such talented oddballs as the sword-swallowing Chelsea NoPants, the fire-eating Jai L’Bait, and self-masochistic Zamora the Torture King. Meanwhile, homegrown performance group Grindwhore will join in to literally make sparks fly with their hot metal-on-metal action. A rogue’s gallery of local artists and Sadisco* spinster DJ VeX turn up the flames, too.
The sideshow shenanigans start at 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 17.
