Under normal circumstances, downing a few beers inside the confines of a protected bird sanctuary isnt a recommended activity. Given claims that our feathered friends can get ensnarled in plastic six-pack rings, its probably a wise avoid mixing mallards with microbrews. Unless of course youre attending one of the monthly Birds n Beer gatherings at the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center.
This ongoing meet and greet combines ales and avian life every third Thursday of the month at the South Phoenix nature habitat, and features gourmet snacks plus Four Peaks canned beers such as Sunbru, Kilt Lifter and Hop Knot. Afterwards, a 45-minute presentation and discussion takes place on themes ranging from the classification of bird species to frog mating behavior. Last months attendees were also treated to an up close and personal glimpse of Mother Nature, as one of those pesky haboobs rolled into town. Hope they covered their cans.
