Some of us pay homage to rock gods. We plaster posters to our walls, wear band t-shirts and belt their songs at karaoke until our friends tell us to shut up. In Gary Patersons first-ever Arizona exhibit, the artist pays homage to a different sort of deity: Gods of art.
Paterson riffs on the techniques of some of the art worlds greats in It Aint Necessarily Sewn, curated by longtime New Times art critic Robrt Pela. Paterson takes Pollacks splatters or Seurats dots, for instance, and uses their techniques to create something new a geometric pattern inspired by stitch, needlepoint and quilting.
