Dark Matter

The works of Edgar Allan Poe are inherently creepy. Call us crazy, but a raven tapping on your door in the middle of the night, and then proceeding to speak in riddles, is more terrifying than any slasher flick.

More About

The master of macabre is honored Halloween night by the lit-crazed creepsters of Arizona Curriculum Theater when the troupe presents PoeFest, a performance of two of the author’s greatest works, “The Cask of Amontillado” and “The Raven.” Actors Jim Coates and Jason Barth present the life-destroying antics of Poe’s greatest characters in a dimly-lit 19th Century “asylum.” Skipping production for audience imagination, Coates and Barth act out prose, rather than getting fancy with it and complicating the set with other characters. It’s just one man, one story, and the words of one of history’s darkest writers.

Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m.; Mon., Oct. 31, 8 p.m. Starts: Oct. 6. Continues through Oct. 30, 2011
