On paper, the ASU Men’s basketball team looks bad. Last season was rough, the Sun Devils are short on scorers, and their star recruit—guard Jahii Carson—has made more headlines for his academic eligibility problems than for anything he’s done on the court.
Despite this, the Devils have a golden opportunity to raise their profile in the Valley. With the NBA locked out for the foreseeable future, ASU’s basketball team is the only game in town. Whether the Devils make the most of their opportunity remains to be seen.
The Sun Devils will face their first real test when they take on the University of New Mexico at Wells Fargo Arena. A loss to the Lobos could derail the Sun Devil bandwagon. A win would show that the Devils are better than they seem.
