It seems fitting that while perennial Tempe rockers The Gin Blossoms ring 2012 on AZ's largest stage, headlining the Fiesta Bowl block party, fellow Tempe vets Meat Puppets will rock “Auld Lang Syne” on a slightly less glamorous stage.

While not without their fair share of success, the Meat Puppets have often seemed to be the derelicts in Tempe's storied musical history, with an ever-intriguing amalgam of country, punk, psychedelia, and rock. Even at their commercial peak with 1994's Too High To Die, larger audiences were unable to paint the Pups into the same saccharin corner where their local contemporaries were settling. Nevertheless, the Puppets continue to traverse the same eclectic path they set out on back in 1980, preferring dimly lit alleyways to thoroughfares if for nothing but the stories acquired along the way.
