Dope Duo

Old age is hell. For most cats, the relentless march of Father Time tends to weaken the joints, gray the features, and dull the mind. Well, unless they happen to be Kevin Smith, that is.

In the case of the 41-year-old geek gadfly and auteur of such iconic comedies as Clerks and Mallrats, getting older has meant getting funnier. Although Smith’s time in the director’s chair is winding down (he reportedly has only a couple films left in his oeuvre), he’s developed a second career as a raconteur and podcasting dynamo and spends hours on end broadcasting his utterly hilarious (and utterly filthy) stories, witty observations, and snarky dissings on Hollywood culture each week via his website (www.smodcast.com).

One of the more memorable “SModcasts” is his weekly gabfest with longtime pal (and fellow vulgarian) Jason Mewes entitled Jay and Silent Bob Get Old. Over the course of a decade, the two slung dope on the silver screen as the drug-dealing duo of the same name in six of Smith’s films. These days, however, they’re serving up laughs instead of nickel bags as they spin funny and foul-mouthed yarns.
