Dead Ringer

Cell phones are a communication lifesaver, but they also make it easy as hell to piss off everyone around you. Nothing’s more disturbing than hearing Lil' Wayne's "Pussy Monster” ringtone in the middle of church service -- except maybe a phone endlessly chiming because its owner is taking a dirt nap in his coffee.

More About

That’s the premise of Sarah Ruhl’s Dead Man’s Cell Phone, presented by Actors Theatre, at the Herberger Theater Center. When café patron Jane picks up the offending device, she ends up learning more than she ever wanted to know about her expired neighbor and his ironic profession.

Despite the laughs that ensue, the play, which runs through March 11, isn’t just about the comical situations that modern technology can create. “[It] has to do with our need and desire to connect with one another, to be seen and heard,” says director Matthew Wiener. “It’s sometimes harder in our highly technological world.”

Thursdays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: Feb. 24. Continues through March 11, 2012
