Y'all know what time it is. Yeahh, boii, it's concert season. A time when up-and-coming buzz bands hit the Southwest en route to South by Southwest, Coachella, or any number of other music fests. And for those of us too broke to afford a trip to Austin or a Bro-chella package, this time of year is a real boon. Who needs to fill up the gas tank when you can spread out the concert love all over the Phoenix metro? South by Stateside finds the indie promoters staging a mini-South-by. This year, the lineup includes a handful of bands, with highlights that include North Carolina's bluegrass-sounding, four-part harmony soulful singing hotties, Delta Rae; Katy Goodman of Vivian Girls' brand new project, La Sera; and Los Angeles' "blackest 'white' band," lo-fi electronic outfit White Arrow. And that's just Day 1. The indie music magic continues with Day 2 performers (on Wednesday, March 21) like Chi-town's one-man band Netherfriends, globe-trotting soul soldiers Adam Arcuragi & The Lupine Chorale Society, and D.C.'s V-neck-wearin' indie-rockers U.S. Royalty. The list goes on with, well, 16 more bands we'll pretend to know this year but will certainly know before everyone else next year, when they sell out a show at Crescent Ballroom or Rhythm Room.
