Flapper's Delight

In our younger and more vulnerable years our father gave us some advice that we've been turning over in our mind ever since. Other than that, we hang with our friends, dancing, drinking hooch, and rebelling. ’Cause women have the vote now.

F. Scott Fitzgerald's Jazz-Age novel The Great Gatsby isn't just a significant piece of American literature; it's been genuinely popular ever since its 1925 publication, so the title rings a bell even for us public school brats. Arizona Theatre Company's production, running through Sunday, April 8, is the Southwest première of the only stage version authorized by Fitzgerald's estate. (Playwright Simon Levy spent four years adapting Tender Is the Night and The Last Tycoon before he got permission for Gatsby. That's taking the long view to success.)

Sundays, 1 & 7 p.m.; Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Wed., March 28, 7:30 p.m.; Sat., March 31, 2 p.m.; Thu., April 5, 2 p.m.; Sat., April 7, 4 p.m.; Sun., April 8, 1 p.m. Starts: March 18. Continues through April 7, 2012
