Monkey Business

Jen Deveroux is nothing if not ambitious. Over the past four years the hipster party promoter has launched dozens of stylishly themed nightlife and fashion events for the trendoid crowd, some of which have flourished (Adult Swim, Tune in Tokyo) while others have fizzled (Royal Filth, Ivy League).

More About

Despite a history of hits and misses, Deveroux’s swinging for the fences once again with Ape Shit. The enormous arty party on Saturday, March 31, offers an even more ambitious challenge than her previous efforts: cramming the cavernous Icehouse with enough artwork to draw urbanites to the off-the-beaten-path downtown venue.

“I’ve always wanted to do something at the Icehouse, but it seems like many people are scared to do something there -- except Quincy [Ross] -- because it's so out of the way and there are so many hoops to jump through,” she says.

But, based on the list of more than 75 “eccentric and creative apes” contributing to the showcase, she should have no trouble filling up empty wall space. The lineup consists of such venerated artists and scene veterans as Legend City’s Randy Slack, The Lost Leaf’s Tato Caraveo, Joseph “Sentrock” Perez, Baron Gordon and dozens more.
