While the sibling rivalry that eventually took down Oasis was one of rock 'n' roll's ugliest, the infantile "he's a liar!" and "well, he's a twat" tirades resulted in fans' getting the best of both worlds: Liam Gallagher's Beady Eye and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. Since 2010, the latter — with such members as former Oasis pianist Mike Rowe and The Zutons' bassist Russell Pritchard — has aimed to prove that Noel was the driving force behind Oasis' anthem-rock popularity. While High Flying Birds leans toward springy rhythms, quasi-Western tones, and a little soul and punk, the elder Gallagher clearly took some of Oasis' unfinished business with him, too. As HFB tours to promote its 2011 self-titled debut album (declared to be "fucking far out" by no less an authority than Noel himself), expect a career-spanning set with lots of Oasis covers mixed in — and maybe the occasional mood swing (the musician has been known to snap at the crowd for yelling out song names). And while the English rock band is booking smaller venues now, they plan for bigger and better next go-round (we'll see), but go ahead and snag the chance to see them in a more intimate setting now.
