Drawn Together

A heads-up for the next generation of Phoenix-area comic creators: Getting local illustration work may not be as easy as, say, getting hired as an anti-immigrant polling place Nazi, but it can be done (no ID checks required). “If you're a comic book artist and claim it's hard to find work because you live in Arizona, you're just not talented enough,” quips local artist Ryan Cody. “Comics are a telecommuter’s best friend. We can work from anywhere in the world as long as there is FedEx and hi-speed internet!”

To illustrate the talent the state has to offer, Cody has gathered more than a dozen of the state’s top designers, writers, and inkers together for a free Arizona Comic Mini-Expo on Saturday, May 5, at Samurai Comics in Mesa. Meet with artists including Tony Parker of Boom Studios, Steam Crow’s Daniel Davis, and Spider-Man artist Patrick Scherberger while grabbing some swag at the shop’s Free Comic Book Day promo.

Sat., May 5, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., 2012
