Rock Solid

Former Arizona State star and Phoenix Mercury rookie Simon Dymond makes her home court debut Saturday, May 26, battling the Los Angeles Sparks. Hopefully it will be enough to overshadow the loss of three-time WNBA All-Star forward Penny Taylor, who suffered a season-ending knee injury this spring. Taylor, however, remains with the team during rehab, following successful surgery, and her moral support -- and the expected strong play of Candice Dupree -- should go a long way in helping the Mercury attain another WNBA title (the last being in 2009). The Mercury started slow in 2011, finishing 19-15 before losing to the Minnesota Lynx in the Western Conference Finals.

But it’s one game at a time, and the Mercury must focus on the Candace Parker-led Sparks, which recently nabbed four-time WNBA All-Star Alana Beard.
