While my heart goes out to this young woman, it's clear that this happened, at least in part, because she was so meek and mild that she was intimidated into signing a false name to an official document.
I too suffer from excessive meekness, and the consequences of this have been very bad for me and my children. When my children were younger I let doctors run roughshod over my valid concerns for the children's health. I let the overbearing doctors convince me my concerns were excessive, and failed to demand a second opinion. My son became very ill as a result of my cowardice.
Women who are excessively meek need to toughen up a bit for the sake of ourselves and our children. I vowed, "Never again!" Ms Torres needs to do the same. Life isn't going to get easier. Authorities aren't going to get gentler or more caring. If we are to be competent adults and parents, we have to stand up for ourselves and what we KNOW to be true. Failing to do so is a form of dishonesty that can have dire consequences.
I do sympathize, really I do. So listen to me: TOUGHEN UP!
