Essentially, it was a form of voter suppression, as a write-in candidate has to be registered with the Secretary of State. And there were no write-in candidates registered.
The robo-calls were paid for by the conservative Safeguard Arizona Future PAC, chaired by Teabagger and Pearce loyalist Ron Ludders.

Back then, Ludders did not want to identify the velvety baritone in the robo-call, but I remember him hinting that I could hear the individual on the radio the evening I called him, as Radio ALRA was about to begin.
I didn't make the link at the time, but Borrajero was helping with the show, though, like Eliades, he was not yet an ALRA officer.
Recently, both Sanchez and Ortiz confirmed that Borrajero was the Montalban-esque voice in question.
Borrajero flipped out when I complimented him for being the owner of that robo-call voice.
At one point, he said he couldn't recall whether he had done the robo-call. Later he denied it. And almost immediately thereafter, he said he would neither confirm nor deny that he was the voice.
"I've done several [robo-calls]," he said at one point. "I don't know which one you are talking about specifically, but I'm not going to get into that either. I don't see how that has to do with anything."
I said his voice sounded exactly like the one on the recording. I even offered to play it for him. That's when the line went dead.
When I called Borrajero back, he threatened to accuse me of harassing him. I replied that it was difficult to harass an official spokesman whose name and phone number are on a press release for his organization.

Dawson claimed that she'd never heard the robo-calls, though Sanchez told me that everyone at the ALRA knew of them and that Borrajero had even joked about it off-air.
Asked about Sanchez's statements, Dawson chalked it up to their legal tiff. She said the ALRA was suing Sanchez for $1,800, and she laughed at Sanchez's claim that the ALRA owed him much more.
She also offered a strange defense of Olivia Cortes, whom she said she had never met.
"Olivia did get on the ballot, so she's not a sham candidate," Dawson lectured me, adding, "I'm getting tired of hearing that phrase . . . To me, as a fellow female Latino, it's an insult to hear it described that way."
Which, considering that Cortes' name is now a local synonym for the word "sham," must mean that Dawson and her crew are insulted a lot.

Let us also not forget that there is no standing statute that makes a non citizen alien a criminal in the sense of committing a Felony or Misdemeanor on a Federal level, illegal entry is a civil crime, much like a traffic violation of speeding (something most everyone in this State seems to do). However illegal entry is an aggravating factor for other crimes committed and reentry after deportation is a crime (see 8 USC § 1325 and 1326) and there are many crimes involving the actual entry of an unauthorized alien. The civil penalty for illegal presence is deportation.
Arizona Class 1 Felonies are reserved for only the most egregious crimes such as premeditated murder (1st Degree). Each jurisdiction has its own classification scheme.
Enjoy your constitutional rights to free speech just as every person may, undocumented presence or not, for we are all people, equal. (see: Wong Wing v. United States, 163 US 228 - Supreme Court 1896, and Plyler v. Doe, 457 US 202 - Supreme Court 1982)

How do these clowns reconcile the the inconsistency between them saying that an inarticulate, inexperienced, dodgy Olivia Cortes was a preferable alternative to Pearce last year, but that they now support him? The ALRA is a sham organization, and whose members supported a sham candidate, Olivia Cortes.

Most un-documented Immigrants, have legal Citizen Children, and or Family members.

@kc.schrod @diggerdan Google Arizona Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for cities, counties, and state and see how broke we are. Arizona is not broke at all, there is plenty of money, oh but we can't transfer it from one coffer to the other, so things like education funds suffer while things like golf course funds flourish! It's all about budgeting properly, and that doesn't seem to occur in favor of the commoner.

E-Verify has been proven to be a valuable tool in the fight to stop illegal workers from entering the American workplace just like drivers licences stop forgers from cashing other peoples checks. To oppose E-Verify only means you support illegal workers. E-Verify MUST be mandatory for all employers.
And it is a fact that for every illegal alien who is taken out of the American workplace jobs are added for legitimate workers.

@free2_syn @Dnichols So, by your analysis "illegals" aren't paying taxes and are only sucking benefits? They pay the same 9.3% sales tax (to state, county, and city) everyone else does on goods taxable, they pay the same duties on cigarettes, alcohol, gas, etc, and most of them pay income tax though they do not file for tax returns, utility's taxes, cellular phone taxes and more. I didn't realize being "illegal" was a shield against taxes... oh wait it isn't and they pay a share too!
Also minimum wage was decided by SCOTUS to be constitutional in United States v. FW Darby Lumber Co., 32 F. Supp. 734 - Dist. Court, SD Georgia 1940.
Perhaps if our culture wasn't so exploitative of others we wouldn't need such measures, but we are capitalist and competition is fierce, therefore if someone cannot find a job they may undercut the competition to get a % of something rather than 100% of nothing. Those willing to pay less than minimum wage are committing a civil violation though and will be liable to the employee! Check out A.R.S. 23-363, 364
