Short Cuts

The short film isn’t just a fun-sized snack to whet your appetite for a feature-length meal. It can be the expertly delivered one-inch punch that’s powerful all on its own. The 2012 Filmstock Film Festival puts up its dukes to maximize the mini-movies on Thursday, November 15.

Since 2009, the locally-based Filmstock Film Festival has celebrated the art of the short film. While the fest has expanded its palette to include filmmakers from all over, Arizona-based productions are still in the spotlight. Chief among them: Paint Life Beautiful, Brandon Branard and Mark Susan’s 2012 documentary that traces the life of artist and B-boy Joseph “Sentrock” Perez from his formative years in West Phoenix through his last summer in the valley before leaving to attend art school in Chicago.

Thu., Nov. 15, 6 p.m.; Fri., Nov. 16, 6 p.m., 2012
