Kiln It

If you’ve spent any time in Sky Harbor International Airport’s Terminal 3, you’ve likely marveled at the work of Jun Kaneko. The Japanese sculptor and painter moved to the U.S. in 1963 to study art and worked under the leaders of the contemporary ceramics movement in California.

More About

Kaneko’s sculptures are massive -- often in the shape of large, glazed ceramic heads and oblong figures he refers to as “dangos,” a term for dumplings in Japanese. Each is hand-crafted using the slab technique, fired, and covered in Kaneko’s signature stripes, polka dots, and patterns. Since moving to the U.S., Kaneko has taught at several universities and has completed more than 30 public art projects across the country.

Thursdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Starts: Nov. 1. Continues through Dec. 28, 2012
