Social Studies

Ann Morton is a local artist who teaches in the fiber department at ASU and color foundations at Paradise Valley Community College. She spent almost 30 years in the graphic design industry, which she says is evident in her work, both visually and in her process. Morton earned her MFA in Fibers from ASU in 2012 and presented "Unentitled" as her thesis work. In the series, she addresses themes of social and political helplessness and says her goal is to raise awareness for the local homeless community.

More About

"Unentitled" returns to the gallery -- this time it's Modified Arts -- in January with installation and mixed-media weaving. She says her latest effort was made possible with the help of some of those hit hardest by social malfunction. "Driven by a desire to make right, the exhibition reflects my own handwork, but also orchestrates handwork of homeless individuals," she writes.
