In Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Belle is the perfect girl next door. She loves reading and hates douchebags. Like most princesses in the Mickeyverse, however, she has a major flaw. For the brunette beaut, it’s Stockholm Syndrome. Fortunately she also has a heart of gold, which sort of excuses the whole falling-for-her-captor thing because we recognize that she cares about inner beauty above all things, kidnapping included.
As Mrs. Potts sings, Beauty and the Beast is a tale as old as time. Because it's such a classic, it's been re-imagined as plays, TV shows, and movies since it was first published in 1740. Disney purists can delight in the lavish Broadway musical based on the 1991 animated feature. A creepy French beast may not catch on fire like in the 1946 film, but Belle will be joined by her pals Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Chip.
