Rossitza Todorova describes her work as the "experience of navigating highways and infrastructure." The Tempe-based artist was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Nevada, Reno and earned a master of fine arts degree in drawing from ASU's Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts this year. Her latest series, titled “Intersections,” is on view at Night Gallery at Tempe Marketplace, 2000 East Rio Salado Parkway.
With a variety of media, including illustration, layered drawing, printmaking, and water-based media, the artist portrays a loose movement and adventure through manmade structures and environments as she's seen them through her time spent in the car. She says her interest in describing space "stems from an interest in movement and travel, time spent driving and traveling in different landscapes." And if you've taken a road trip or traveled the overpasses of Phoenix's many intertwining highways, you'll see what she means.
