The More You Poe

Optical illusions. A mirror maze. Frock coats and hoop skirts. Merging. Fracture. Is the soul made of waves or particles? Poe meets quantum meets illustrator M.C. Escher’s surreal trippiness in The Fall of the House of Escher, a MainStage production of ASU Tempe’s School of Film, Dance, and Theatre running through Sunday, October 6.

More About

Third-year Master of Fine Arts candidates built this production from the ground up, or perhaps from the sky down, depending how you look at it. It’s always mind-expanding to see what these sweaty, driven, multi-culti, mostly millennial grad students come up with. Bombarded by everything from Edgar Allan Poe’s house of Usher (the original “sick building”) to Kinect devices that let one play any type of music upon the air (not just creepy theremin sounds), you’ll be immersed and transformed by the show, which will also be affected by the audience’s presence. The Thursday, October 3, performance commences at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyceum Theatre, 901 South Forest Mall on campus. For tickets, $8 to $16, visit www.herbergerinstitute.asu.edu/events or call 480-965-6447.

Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Sept. 27. Continues through Oct. 6, 2013
