i can appreciate MWS (Micheal W Smith) coming to Phx, he has long been a big artist within the CCM community. While artists like Amy Grant, Jars of Clay, Carman, Audio Adrenaline, etc are big within that market in their own rights, MWS is on his own level. he puts on a great show and is a good performer.
i grew up in the alternate of the alternate universe that Dan Moore (the author of this article) grew up in. MWS and others were too mainstream for me, too poppy. i cut my musical teeth on artists like Mortal, Starflyer 59, Circle of Dust, Living Sacrifice, Stavesacre, Mike Knott, and Poor Old Lu. these artists were (and in some cases still are) the voices of the christian underground. these weren't as evangelical as MWS, et al. i've always struggled with that method of christianity. but that's just me. i had a hard time connecting with that type of thinking and lyric writing style.
