Abaire Afoot

David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole, A Devil Inside, Fuddy Meers, Wonder of the World) might be the darling of Phoenix theaters and audiences alike because his absurd works and his heart-wrenching dramas alike feature hypernatural dialogue and distinctive, complex characters, all of which illustrate how life is simultaneously a bitch and a hoot. Which is really very Arizona, even though his latest local première, Good People, takes place in South Boston.

Single mom Margie’s lost her job as a dollar-store cashier and visits a high-school flame, a successful physician who’s escaped Southie, in her search for a new opportunity. The freaking amazing cast (Katie McFadzen, Rusty Ferracane, Maria Amorocho, Cathy Dresbach, and ASU MFA candidates Tyler Eglen and Shanique S. Scott) breaks in the Arizona Opera Center, across Central from Phoenix Art Museum, as a flexible, intimate performance space. Actors Theatre’s production continues through Sunday, May 11, with relatively scarce tickets ranging from $18 to $45 at www.actorstheatrephx.org. Thursday, May 8’s show begins at 7 p.m. at 1636 North Central Avenue. Call 602-888-0368.
