Kirby Enthusiasm

Comic book movies have reigned at the box office, but it was artist Jack Kirby’s larger-than-life creations that seemed to jump off the page in cinematic ways. The King of Comics will be celebrated at Samurai Comics on Thursday, August 28, which would have been his 97th birthday.

Kirby passed away in 1994 but his legacy lives on in the characters he had a hand in creating including Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, and The X-Men. Local superhero haven Samurai Comics celebrates his life with local artists sketching The King’s classic characters, original art auctions, and panel discussions. It’s all to raise awareness for The Hero Initiative, the comic book industry’s effort to provide for comic book creators in their later years.
