3: Colin Chillag Colin Chillag's a local painter who says he finds inspiration in snapshots he picks up in thrift stores. His work often leaves much to the imagination (as you'll see after the jump).

He was born in Syracuse, New York, attended grade school and high school in Phoenix and left for a few years to study at the San Francisco Art Institute. Lucky for us, he came back.

Read more about Chillag, his solo exhibition at Pravus in October, and his admiration of Jon Haddock after the break ...

1. List five things on your wall of inspiration (real or imaginary):

Upcoming Events

- Stucco - paint - Dried Spaghetti - Hunky fireman calender - Photos of Martin Heidegger and Jon Haddock

2. What was your last big project? Solo show at the now defunct Angstrom gallery in LA.

3. What's your next big project? Solo show in October at the soon to be defunct Pravus gallery in Phoenix.

4. Why do you do what you do? Jon Haddock told me that being an artist was a fun and easy way to make tons of money.

5. What is something you want Phoenix to know? What I really want Phoenix to know about me is that my existence is an entity which does not just occur among other entities. Rather, it is ontically distinguished by the fact that, in its very existence, that existence is an issue for it. This makes my existence a constitutive state of existent being, and this implies that my existence, in its being, has a relationship toward that existence -- a relationship which itself is one of being. And this means further that there is some way in which my existence understands itself in its existence, and that to some degree it does so explicitly. It is peculiar to this entity that with and through my existence, this existence is disclosed to me. My understanding of my existence is itself a definite characteristic existent being. My existence is ontically distinctive in that it IS ontological.

6. Something I don't want Phoenix to know? The above paragraph is shameless plagiarism of Jon Haddock.
