3 Free Events in Metro Phoenix This Week
If Homer Simpson taught us anything, it's that you've got to squeeze every penny, not so hard that said penny gets embedded in your skin and travels up your arm, mind you, but just enough so you can see the town without seeing negatives in your bank account. From motorcycle shows to grand opening receptions and zombie screenings, here are our top three picks for free events in metro Phoenix this week.
From 5 to 9 p.m. every Thursday, now through November 13, Westgate Entertainment District invites bikers and bystanders alike to ooh and aah over the roughly 1,200 motorcycles parked along Coyotes and Westgate boulevards. Sponsored in part by Cyclerides.com, this event features live music and discounts from local bars and restaurants. Visit www.westgateaz.com/bikenight for more information.
The Newton may have opened its doors back in May, but it's hosting its official grand opening event this Saturday, October 11. Festivities will include all-day happy hour at First Draft Book Bar, live music from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., face-painting, balloon animals, drink specials at Southern Rail, and 30 percent off Halloween and seasonal home goods from Southwest Gardener. For more information, visit The Newton's Grand Opening on Facebook.
Starting Sunday, October 12, and every Sunday till the end of season five, National Comedy Theatre will host free screenings of AMC's The Walking Dead -- last week's episode and the week's current episode -- followed by Talking Dead. Showtimes have yet to be announced. Concessions will be available for $2, and craft beer will be sold for $4. For updates and details, visit www.nctphoenix.com.
