Piñatas often hit the recycle bin as fast as the candy's punched out of their guts. But Beatrice Moore, owner of Bragg's Pie Factory, has asked Phoenix artists to create mutant piñatas for an upcoming annual exhibition.

Thursday's the last drop off day at Bragg's, so you still have a few days to restyle your own to submit for the show. Your options: Do all the work and start from scratch, or you could use an existing piñata's structure and restyle it into a mutant.

Learn how to restyle a piñata into a mutant after the jump.

Materials:
- Old piñata
- Craft glue
- Brush
- Bowl
- White Tissue paper
- White crepe paper
- Black crepe paper
- Black Card stock
- White card stock
- White dollies
- White tulle
- Straight pins
- String
- Packing tape

Method:
1. Take your existing piñata and pull off all of the old, colored tissue paper.

2. Using a craft knife, cut the piñata into pieces -- separating the head, neck, legs, etc..

3. For this piñata, take the four legs and add them together create two long posts and attach them to the back with tape.

4. Cover the piñata with white tissue paper and then white crepe paper using craft glue.

5. Add black crepe paper to the back area to act like a tail.

6. Take white doilies and cut them in half. Add glue to the cut edge of the doily and attach to the top "leg" posts to act like wings.

7. Glue a white dolly to the face area and then cut white card stock into a circle and glue on top of the dolly to act as the face

8. Cut black card stock in the shape of eyes, eye brows and a mouth, glue to the face

9. Attach a sting to the top hanging piece to be able to hang your piñata from the ceiling
