Jessica Joslin has a good eye for detail and a great eye for treasure. The Chicago-based artist creates and recreates skeletal characters from bone, antique hardware, leather, and glass, adding bits of personality that bring each to life.

“These are clearly not creatures that have lived out the biological or evolutionary imperative,” she writes. “Instead, they are survivors of a more treacherous environment: human civilization.”

Part fantasy and part science, Joslin’s work reflects both the love of adornment and the quick ability to toss out remnants of old treasures. It is by using these remnants, however, that Joslin thrives and is able to bring back to life something long gone.
